HEDWIN CUBE® INSERT FITS THE BILL WHEN WATER AUTHORITY SEEKS EMERGENCY WATER CONTAINER

When the Suffolk County Water Authority - operating on New York's Long Island - went looking for a budget-friendly, space saving plastic container that could be stored easily and conveniently at the Authority's facilities for use in the event of an emergency that deprived its customers of readily available potable water, it turned to the Hedwin Cube® Insert to meet its needs.

The Suffolk County Water Authority (SCWA) is a self-supporting, non-profit, public benefit corporation serving more than a million residents in Suffolk County, New York. The SCWA also has the distinction of being the largest water utility based entirely on groundwater in the country.

In its continuing effort to prepare for the aftermath of either a natural or man-made disaster - either of which could potentially deprive some its customers of potable water - the SCWA purchased a supply of Cube® Inserts for long term storage at its Oakdale, New York facilities and for future use by the public should access to potable water be denied for whatever reason.

When the staff of the SCWA determined a need for emergency water containers existed, a search was initiated to seek out the container that best met the criteria the Water Authority had established: Cost effectiveness, ease of use and convenience for the end-user, warehouse space friendliness, along with an inherent ruggedness that meant the container could take the pounding of emergency situations. The SCWA's search took them to the Hedwin Cube®.

The Cube® Insert purchased for use by the SCWA, is a 2.5 gallon, flexible low-density polyethylene container that features both a molded handle for easy carrying and pouring and a 38mm screwcap opening (Cap included.) for the smooth, no-glug dispensing of liquids.

Government and disaster relief agencies state that one of the essential components to maintaining good health in emergency situations is access to a supply of potable water. Renown for both its compact design and ruggedness, the Cube® has achieved a solid reputation as a preferred container of choice by government and private sector personnel whose focus is emergency preparedness and/or disaster relief.

The 2.5 gallon Cube® (The 2.5 gallon unit is just one of many sizes offered by Hedwin for this product.) arrives packed in a nested configuration of 36 units per box and offers an 8-1 space-saving ratio versus rigid containers. With cap already in place, the Cube® is immediately ready to be passed out to the population and used for the collection and storage of potable water. The Cube®, constructed of low density polyethylene, is FDA compliant for water storage and food contact. Multiple reuses are easy and convenient, and, after the emergency has passed, the unit can be refolded into its original nested configuration and held in storage by the end-user for additional future use without a sacrifice to available space.

"Hedwin believes that the Cube® - with its design and abundance of user-friendly features - along its budget-friendly cost, can be a vital component to both private and public sector emergency planning", says Susan Nauman, Hedwin's Technical Services Manager. "The product has important benefits we want decision-makers to know about as it relates to its status as a long time trusted water container in meeting their and other programs' needs."

For their part, the Suffolk County Water Authority is glad they took a proactive approach to emergency preparedness as it relates to their emergency water container needs: For an organization that prides itself on its cutting-edge commitment to technology to meet the needs of the population it serves, the SCWA's commitment to a simple plastic container serves as a reassuring reminder to its many customers that the SCWA intends to lead its industry by example.
